Project description
Cedral fibre cement cladding has helped a Suffolk-based family create a more beautiful world, transforming the exterior of their selfbuild property into a traditionally inspired countryside retreat.
The newly built five-bedroom property, located in the heart of the Arger Fen Countryside, has a stunning New England style exterior, created through the installation of Cedral Lap across its entirety.
Whilst undergoing major refurbishment works of the original bungalow, homeowner Gerry Fincham took the challenge to refresh the entire property, completely altering its structure. Speaking of the project, Gerry said: “The history behind this particular plot of land goes back to around 1939 when the open field, which the property currently sits on, was split in to two creating an additional building plot. I grew up in the farm just opposite the home and my father purchased the plot of land including the bungalow and small farm in the 1970s for his retirement.
“Fast forward to current day, we decided to demolish the original bungalow that had been built on the land and in its place design our own four bedroom home with a double garage, perfect for family life. In this particular area there is a huge trend for cladding, so we knew Cedral would be the perfect fit for our new home.
“Cedral Lap is the ideal option for selfbuilders as not only is it cost effective, it also meets the individual requirements of the build. We completed extensive research before the build took place and specified Cedral in colour Black to blend into the surrounding buildings and countryside environment.”
Another great advantage for Gerry and his family was the low maintenance nature of Cedral, with a minimum life expectancy of 50 years, it can help reduce maintenance costs as it only needs to be washed down.
Gerry finished: “We are extremely pleased with the outcome of the project, we have been able to create a truly standout home that we know will look great in years to come.”
Cedral Lap fibre cement cladding is a low maintenance alternative to traditional cladding materials and holds a Class A fire performance rating. Resistant to rot, attack from insects and the external elements, the easy to install solution is available in a range of colours. Cedral Lap has been installed in a classic clapboard effect with the planks overlapping one another to create a traditional New England aesthetic.
