Inspired by the clean lines and classic style of New England clapboard houses, Surrey homeowners Emma and Matt chose Cedral facades to give their tired 1950’s home a modern makeover. Paired with a soft shade render, the Grey Brown cladding added a wow effect that impressed the couple’s 21,000 followers on Instagram.

“I get asked a lot about the cladding we used when I share any exterior shots of the house,” says Emma.

Researching the cladding market, the couple liked the longevity that Cedral offered. “We wanted something that would be hard-wearing and last for a long time,” says Emma. “Wood needs a lot of maintenance, but Cedral had that wood-effect we liked so it’s the best of both worlds – the look of wood but with low maintenance.”

They also loved the wide range of Cedral colour options and chose the Grey Brown shade for a look that is natural and earthy. And, to complete the New England effect, they opted for lap fitting weatherboards.

The ability to order free Cedral cladding samples online was another factor in making their choice. “We used the samples to create a mood board and see how the cladding would work with the other materials on the house, so that was very useful.”

Matt, who owns design and build company Babel Developments, used his experienced team to install the Cedral lap cladding. “It was easy to put on and was all done in just a few days,” says Emma. Cedral’s installation guides can also be downloaded from the brand’s website to help with the process.

Impressed with the final result, Matt is currently using Cedral facades for a client renovation.

“We are super happy with how our home looks,” says Emma. “I think if you want that New England look, this is a really great product to use. There’s a variety of colour choices, it’s easy to fit and lasts for a long time. We also checked the fire rating and it was very high, which is important for safety and particularly reassuring if you’re doing your own design and build.”
