The 2022 Octabuild Builders Merchant Excellence Awards is now open for applications. This year will be the first-time in the history of the Awards that it will be an all-island competition to recognise excellence in the builders merchant trade on the island of Ireland.
In line with Octabuild’s core values, identifying and promoting excellence and best practice remain the focus of the awards. Merchants are encouraged to enter any or all of the categories appropriate to their business.
2022 Key Dates
- 2nd May - Entries Open
- 1st July - Closing Date for Entries
- July - First Stage Judging & Shortlist announced
- August/ September - Judges' visit up to 90mins
- 13th October - Awards Event at the Manison House Dublin

Types of Awards
There are three types of awards that you can enter, designed to match your company achievements wihtin the past 12 months.
Regional & Octabuild Awards - For 2022, the existing Ireland and Northern Ireland Awards will be combined and one winner will be selected. To enter a Regional Award for Excellence, each of the five category sections in the entry form must be completed.
Individual Category Awards - In addition to the Regional & Octabuild Awards, merchants can enter one or more of the following categories which will reward excellence in: Business Management, Customer Service, Sales & Marketing, Sustainable Business & Community Outreach
Rising Star Award - To recognise and encourage upcoming talent in the builders merchant industry, merchants can nominate any staff member who is aged 30 years and under, who they believe has performed above expectations in the business, the community and with customers.
Why enter?
There are many benefits to enter the awards:
Enthuse and motivate staff; recognise business achievements; offer marketing opportunities; and boost customer confidence.
Level playing field -Every store, irrespective of size, recent investment, independent or part of a group, has an opportunity to enter and will be judged on an equal basis.
Team work - The awards format provides an opportunity to involve management and staff in preparing submissions and hosting store visits.
Who should enter?
Any builders merchant store (either independent or part of a group) that derives at least 50% of its sales from the building/construction industry is encouraged to enter the Awards, particularly those who have never done so previously.
How do I enter?
Entering is easy, there are three options.
Firstly you need to download the entry form from the Octabuild Awards website (octabuild.ie/awards).
You can submit completed forms Online, by email to awards@octabuild.ie, or by post.
