Project description
Cedral Lap fibre cement cladding has been at the forefront of a significant renovation of a 200-year-old dilapidated Welsh barn house into a contemporary, rural shooting lodge.
The £55,000 transformation, lead by Neath Dry Lining, took just nine weeks to complete with both the interiors and exteriors of the property being entirely transformed into an eight bedroom holiday home, housing up to 20 guests.
Throughout the development, three separate buildings were joined together to create a single holiday accommodation for visitors attending the Gwynedd based shooting retreat, situated within the Welsh countryside.
Due to its serious state of disrepair, the historic building presented an extremely challenging renovation project, requiring all uneven walls, floors and ceilings having to be replaced and straightened out before any internal or external renovation work could take place.
Cedral Lap in C05 Grey was specified for the project due to its low maintenance properties and traditional aesthetic, perfectly mirroring the natural Welsh landscape. Having to be sensitive to the natural environment surrounding the development, 350 m2 of fibre cement boards were installed across the whole of the development, creating nature inspired visual appeals.
A monochrome contrast was created through grey cement boards installed around the windows and doors frames of the property to add a contemporary edge.
Mark Aveyard, Managing Director of Neath Dry Lining, said: “Working on such a drastic renovation project was a fantastic chance to give a real contemporary feel to such a traditional property. We specified Cedral Lap fibre cement boards due to their significant durability, as we wanted to use materials that would protect such an old building whilst being visually sensitive to the landscape.
The grey colour scheme perfectly reflects the rural feel of the landscape, peacefully overlooking the Welsh mountains. The boards were installed in a traditional clapper board effect to create an aesthetic that represents the traditional previous building and the new, modern building.”
